COMPETITIVE DANCE PROGRAM
In the past few years we have had some students displaying their talents at various competitions and have had great results and a lot of fun! Dancers may compete as soloists, duets, trios or groups. They may enroll to compete in one or more of the following elements: ballet, jazz, tap, acrobatic, lyrical, hip hop or open dance.
Competitive dance, in general does cost more than recreational dance for the following reasons; there are entry fees, transportation costs, occasionally hotel costs and costumes tend to be more elaborate and expensive. Competitive dancers are required to purchase a dance school team jacket and pants to wear over costumes at competitions ($95.00) and they are required to participate in the 1 hour weekly Technical Skills class, as well as their half hour choreographed routine class.
This being said, although there are increased costs, these dancers thrive on the excitement of performing and the satisfaction of bringing home lots of awards and trophies to display in their bedrooms!
Entry Fees for Competitions:
- Groups $25.00-$35.00 per dancer
- Duets/Trios $40.00-$50.00 per dancer
- Soloists $60.00-$70.00
Costumes: $75.00 to $? per costume per element plus footwear. Costume costs depend on the style of dance and the detailing of the costume. The amount spent on costumes, make-up, false eyelashes and what I refer to as "bling" is totally at the discretion of the parents-as long as everyone is in agreement, the dance school will make no ultimate demands.
Class Fees:
Technical Skills Class for All Competitive Dancers 1 hr /wk($440.00/yr)
This class is a combination of jazz and ballet intense technical instruction to provide the foundation for all competitive dance forms and is mandatory for all dancers in the competitive program, regardless of the level or discipline/element(s) they choose to compete in.
Choreographed Routine Class 30 min. /wk
(Groups $210.00ea/yr, Trios $220.00ea/yr, Duets $330.00ea/yr,
Soloists $660.00/yr per element)
These classes are dedicated completely to the learning and perfecting of the competitive routines choreographed and performed at 3-5 competitions in the spring of 2011 as well as the year end recitals, fall fairs and any other invitations we feel would benefit the dancers' experience.
Discounts will be offered to families with more than one competitive dancer (sibling) or any dancer who enrolls in more than one competitive discipline of dance for example, tap and acro, or in combination with recreational classes. Only one discount per family will be offered.
We will assess the level of ability of those interested in participating in this program during the first few weeks of classes. Interested competitive dancers should respond as soon as possible. Competition locations are as local as possible.
